Repair Terms & Conditions
Effective and last updated: 4 September 2026
Please read these terms before submitting a quote request or sending equipment. By approving a quote, paying an invoice, supplying parts, or sending a device to Game Gear Revival, you confirm that you have read and accepted these terms. No device should be mailed until we provide written shipping instructions.
1. Scope of service
Game Gear Revival is an independent repair and refurbishment service specializing in Sega Game Gear consoles. Services may include inspection, diagnosis, capacitor replacement, cleaning, corrosion treatment, shell replacement, display and power upgrades, audio repair, board-level repair and agreed custom modifications. We are not affiliated with or authorized by SEGA.
2. Estimates, quotes and authorization
- An initial estimate is based on the information and photographs supplied and may change after physical inspection.
- No additional paid work will be performed without the customer’s approval. If further faults or costs are discovered, we will provide a revised written quote.
- Quotes are valid for 14 days unless the quote states otherwise. Parts prices and availability can change before payment or approval.
- A diagnostic or bench fee may apply where stated in the quote, including when repair is declined, not possible, or uneconomical.
2A. Mail-in diagnostic fee
After a mail-in request is approved, a $19.99 diagnostic fee is due before the device is sent. The fee covers intake and initial diagnosis and will be credited toward an approved repair. It does not include shipping, parts or additional labor. The fee is non-refundable once inspection has begun, including when the customer declines the repair or the device is found to be beyond economical repair. The customer must not send equipment until written shipping instructions are provided.
3. Customer-supplied parts
We may agree to install parts supplied by the customer. Compatibility must be confirmed before shipment, but final fit and function cannot be guaranteed until installation. Customer-supplied parts are used at the customer’s risk and are not covered by our parts warranty. Additional labor, diagnosis or removal charges may apply if a supplied part is defective, incomplete, incompatible, counterfeit, damaged or requires modification. We are not responsible for replacing or refunding customer-supplied parts.
4. Parts supplied by Game Gear Revival
Where we supply parts, the quote will identify the agreed parts and labor. New-old-stock, salvaged, aftermarket or reproduction parts may be used when original parts are unavailable, but only when appropriate for the agreed repair. Cosmetic appearance and color can vary between production batches and may not perfectly match aged original components.
5. Pre-existing damage and inherent repair risk
Vintage electronics can contain brittle plastics, weakened traces, leaking capacitors, corrosion, prior repairs, lifted pads, failing displays, damaged connectors and faults that are not visible before disassembly. Opening, cleaning, heating, soldering or testing may expose or worsen a pre-existing weakness despite reasonable care. The customer accepts these inherent risks. We will document significant unexpected damage and seek approval before work materially exceeds the agreed scope.
6. Corrosion, liquid, batteries and contamination
Battery leakage, liquid damage and corrosion can continue beneath components and board coatings and may make a repair temporary or impossible. Treatment reduces risk but cannot guarantee that corrosion will not return or that every affected trace or component has been found. Devices containing swollen, leaking or unsafe batteries, biological contamination, pests, mold, strong odors or hazardous residue may be refused, isolated or returned at the customer’s expense.
7. Data and game saves
Game Gear consoles generally do not store personal data, but cartridges, flash devices, accessories or later modifications may contain saves, settings or other data. The customer is responsible for backing up anything important before shipment. Repair, testing, battery replacement, power faults or component failure may cause data loss. Game Gear Revival is not responsible for lost or corrupted data or game saves.
8. Testing and intermittent faults
We test repaired equipment for the reported fault and the agreed work using available games, power supplies and accessories. Intermittent faults may not appear during testing. Unless specifically included in the quote, service does not constitute a complete restoration of every circuit or a guarantee that unrelated aged components will not fail later.
9. Warranty
Unless a written quote states a different period, our workmanship and parts supplied by Game Gear Revival are warranted for 90 days from confirmed delivery to the customer. The warranty is limited to the same fault or failure of the supplied part and, at our option, rework, repair or replacement. The customer must contact us before returning a device. Warranty does not cover customer-supplied parts, unrelated faults, accidental or liquid damage, battery leakage, misuse, incorrect power adapters, unauthorized opening or repair, shipping damage, normal cosmetic wear, or failure caused by another aged component. The customer is responsible for inbound warranty shipping unless we agree otherwise; approved return shipping will be handled as stated in writing.
10. Shipping and transit
- The customer is responsible for safe packaging, accurate contact details, and the cost and risk of shipping the device to us.
- Use a sturdy box, adequate padding and tracked, insured shipping. Do not ship loose batteries or leaking batteries.
- Return shipping, insurance and signature service will be charged as stated in the quote or invoice.
- We are not responsible for carrier delay, loss or damage, but will reasonably assist with a claim. Liability for an approved carrier claim is limited to the amount paid by the carrier.
11. Payment, cancellations and refunds
Payment terms will be stated in the quote or invoice. Parts may require advance payment and special-order parts may be non-refundable once ordered. A cancellation request is effective only when acknowledged in writing. The customer remains responsible for work already completed, diagnostic charges, non-returnable parts, payment-processing costs where lawful, and return shipping. Completed labor is not refundable, but qualifying warranty issues will be addressed under section 9.
12. Unclaimed property
We will make reasonable attempts to contact the customer using the details provided. If an invoice, revised quote or return-shipping request remains unanswered for 60 days after our first notice, storage fees may apply where disclosed and lawful. After at least 90 days and a final written notice, the device may be treated as abandoned and disposed of, recycled or sold to recover unpaid charges, to the extent permitted by applicable law. Any balance remaining after lawful costs will be handled as required by law.
13. Replacement value and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for a claim is limited to the amount paid for the specific service or the fair market value of the device immediately before service, whichever is lower. We are not liable for sentimental value, loss of use, lost profits, loss of data, loss of game saves, or indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.
14. Ownership and authority
The customer confirms that they own the device or have the owner’s permission to authorize the work, and that the device is not stolen or subject to another person’s claim. We may refuse service where ownership, safety, legality or requested modifications are in doubt.
15. Photographs and privacy
We may photograph the device, packaging and repair process for condition records, diagnosis, quality control and dispute resolution. Identifying customer information will not be published. Any use of repair photographs for marketing or education will omit personal information; the customer may request in writing that identifiable or unique equipment not be used publicly.
16. Right to refuse or stop work
We may refuse or stop work that is unsafe, unlawful, outside our capability, likely to cause disproportionate damage, affected by severe contamination, or dependent on unavailable parts. In that event, the customer remains responsible for agreed diagnosis, completed work, non-returnable parts and return shipping.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before starting formal proceedings, both parties agree to make a good-faith attempt to resolve the issue in writing. Any claim that cannot be resolved will be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in Connecticut, except where consumer law requires otherwise.
18. Changes, severability and entire agreement
The version accepted with the customer’s quote applies to that service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. The written quote, approved revisions and these terms form the entire agreement for the service and replace prior discussions about that work. A waiver or change must be confirmed in writing.
19. Questions and acceptance
Ask any questions before approving work or sending a device. Submitting the required consent checkbox records acceptance of the version dated above; approval of the quote, payment, or shipment of the device also confirms acceptance.
